seatselect

Select your seat in advance, get more space or a better location on Air New Zealand operated flights.

If you don't choose to select your seat in advance, your seat will be allocated to you at check-in.

Enter your booking reference and family name below.

How do I seatselect?

It's simple, and there are several ways to seatselect:

You may have access to free Standard Seating as part of your fare or Airpoints™ status. If this is not available, or you would like a different seating option, you can purchase a seat of your choice using paid seatselect.

When can I seatselect?

You can purchase seatselect at the time of booking or up until three hours prior to departure for international flights and up to 30 minutes prior for domestic flights.

If you would like to pay for seatselect with Airpoints dollars, you can do so at the time of booking.

Remember, you don't need to select your seat with your booking. We'll allocate one to you for free when you check in.

Seating options

Standard Seat

If you're an Elite, Gold, Elite Partner or Koru member, see below for more about what you can get.

Flying on theworks or worksflexi fare to the Tasman or Islands, or a New Zealand domestic flexichange or flexirefund fare? Choosing a Standard Seat is included in your fare. If you're travelling on a seat only or seat+bag fare on New Zealand domestic or if you're on a seat only fare on Tasman and Islands flights, you can select your desired seat in advance using paid seatselect.

If you're travelling on a long haul international flight, your fare may include a standard seat or you can purchase one in advance using paid seatselect.

You can change your seat to another seat of same or lesser value at any time.

If you don't select your seat in advance, your seat will be allocated to you at check-in. If you are travelling on a long haul journey, you can access a Standard Seat free of charge, if available, when online check-in opens 24 hours before your flight.

See below or the fare rules pages for more information.

Preferred Seat

These seats are in preferred location on the aircraft and may also have extra legroom.

Exit Row Seat

Enjoy extra space in front to stretch out.

In case of emergency, you may need to activate the emergency exit door. As a result you must meet all applicable Civil Aviation (or other regulatory authority) regulatory and safety requirements and:

  • Be over 15 years of age
  • Have a good understanding of English
  • Be prepared to follow any instructions from the crew
  • Be physically able and willing to assist
  • Be free of any disability, condition or reduction in mobility that may prevent you from performing emergency exit functions
  • Strong enough and can safely open the exit door in the event of an emergency

If you book an exit row seat online, you need to confirm you meet these requirements.

You may also be assessed during check-in, at the departure gate or after you board your flight.

Please don't be offended if we check your eligibility or ask you to move. The safety of everyone aboard is paramount.

Bassinet Row Seats

If you're travelling with an infant, paid bassinet seating* is a reassuring option for parents. Some seats in these rows have bassinet fittings designed for infants up to 8 months old and weighing a maximum of 11.8kg/26lb, subject to availability.

If you don't secure a bassinet during booking, we'll still do our best to allocate one to you at the airport if one is still available.

Bassinet dimensions are 29 inches (73.66cm) long x 13.5 inches (34.29cm) wide.

Neighbour free seat

A Neighbour free seat reserves the seat space next to you, so you can enjoy extra space when travelling in Economy on selected flights. This product is a paid seat select option and will only be provided to passengers named on the ticket.

The adjacent Neighbour free seat would be shared with the passenger on the other side. It does not allow you to sit across or lay across multiple seats, and cannot be used for infant seating or for stowing items such as carry-on baggage or musical instruments.

Business Premier - preferred seating

Available only on our Boeing 777-367ER aircraft, Business Premier Preferred seating offers greater space, comfort and privacy. Store your carry on baggage in your personal closet with hook. Then sit back, enjoy your seat's in-built massage function and our usual exceptional Business Premiere service.

Multiseat - preferred seating

Exclusive and guaranteed use of three Economy seats in a row on our southbound service from New York to Auckland. This product is available in the forward Economy cabin and allows a single customer to push up the armrests and stretch out on our longest non-stop service.

Legroom

Legroom seats are forward Economy seats offering additional legroom on all flights to and from New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands. This product is a paid seat select option, with more legroom to maximise comfort in flight.

Airpoints™ Elite, Gold, Elite Partner and Koru members
